The Maritimes alone have a whopping 30 Senate seats to Alberta's 6 - I might add with half the population of Alberta AND O Ya - all appointed by the PM'- what a joke! The West has 111 MP's in the House, the East has 232. The West has 2 Supremes in the big Court, the East has 7--, and they must all be bilingual. That is very deflating for the West when Alberta keeps Canada on life support. You folks in the East MUST wake up. When Alberta contributes 330 billion dollars to keep Canada afloat with so little to say, Albertans in large numbers have woken up to the disparities and hopefully become sovereign in October. Alberta separation is not all about the oil and Ottawa’s abuse, it is about being able to reclaim pride in a country that stands for common sense and all the other things that made us proud to be Canadian.
A correction. Alberta and her twin province, Saskatchewan have only been part of the Canadian federation for 121 years, since 1905. We have always been looked down upon as a bunch of red- necked stubble jumpers. When oil became worth as much as gold, the federal Liberal government under Trudeau senior ignored the British North American Act, which was the constitution of Canada at the time, and imposed the National Energy Act to take some control of Alberta’s natural resources which was outside of the constitutional limits of the BNA. Saint Peter Lougheed sold our soul to the devils in Ottawa. Another Premier named Ralph Klein attempted to regain Alberta’s constitutional rights but was vilified by the eastern arrogant, elitist laurentian bastards in Ottawa. Now, 20 some years later we have a self-declared “new” regime in Ottawa vilifying our province and it’s premier and also whispering sweet nothings in our ears. We want either a sweetheart deal from Ottawa like Quebec and the “First Nations” have, which is sovereignty over OUR land, or we want out of this abusive relationship with the rest of Canada. Enough sweet talk and time for some decisive action. Blarney Carney can continue his constant global victory tour and his minions in Ottawa can go to Hell
I see no way for Alberta to survive, if we don’t leave Canada, we are being ruled over by the east, we have no say in our own lives, decisions are made in the east, and rammed down our throats, they are even starting to call us traitors, for doing the exact same thing as Quebec has been doing for years. We have followed all of the rules, and now we are being cussed and abused, like the “red headed stepchild”. But hey, we’re used to it, it’s been happening since before 1905. That said, many people from all parts of Canada are seriously envious of this movement and under most, if not all the YT clips discussing this movement people make such comments. I am almost moved to tears seeing how many people in other parts of Canada are truly supportive of the ABIM and wish they could be part of it.
I believe that most people who do not fully understand the movement to the degree they need to are the ones making ridiculous comments or attacking people. That's a common problem in Canada, ill-informed mouth pieces and shouters.
It took me time to willingly come across the line from a Canadian loyalist to an Alberta Independence gal. It felt disloyal to do so but once I started reading Bruce Pardy's information and the Alberta Prosperity Project Website in good detail I realized this much more than a bunch of rednecks wanting their own way.
